This concert is for HSC students and grades 7 and up to have performance experience. Performers may present 2 pieces, with a combined length of a maximum of 10 minutes. Each performer will receive an adjudicator's report. The Margaret Chalmers Scholarship will also be adjudicated at this concert. Numbers are strictly limited!

The Margaret Chalmers Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship has been established by a bequest to the MTA, to enable study in Australia or abroad, by a student of any instrument or voice. Two contrasting pieces must be played. Performers must be aged 25 years or under, be residents of NSW, and be students of teachers who are MTA members. Two scholarships will be awarded in 2022, each to a value of $3000, one for an instrumentalist and one for a vocalist. Any perfomers who meet these conditions may be considered for this scholarship.

Previous winners of the Margaret Chalmers Scholarship are ineligible to enter.

Rural and Regional Scholarship Entries

Performers from outside the greater Sydney area may submit a video performance that will be shown on a large screen at the live concert. Please see the Terms and Conditions on the MTA website for instructions. Video performers will be adjudicated as if attending the live performance.

Terms and Conditions

1. Total time limit for entire performance is 10 minutes. Two contrasting pieces may be presented.
2. Please have two copies of the score available for the adjudicators. Photocopies will not be returned. All laws applying to the photocopying of music must be strictly observed. The Music Teachers’ Association of NSW Ltd accepts no responsibility for unauthorised copying of material by entrants and assumes that no copyright laws have been infringed.
3. Report sheets and participation certificates will be presented to all performers.
4. Students must provide their own accompaniment if required.
5. Students are required to bring their own equipment (i.e. microphone, backing track, cd player etc.) and to bring someone to operate this equipment.
6. Previous winners of this scholarship are ineligible to enter.
7. Closing date for entry: 15 July 2022. Late applications will not be accepted.
8. Entry Fee: Student of MTA Member $45; Non Member Students $75; Audience fee: Adult $15; Concession $10. Free entry for teachers and accompanists.
9. Number of entries are limited.
10. Performers are encouraged to dress appropriately for an evening performance.
11. The decision of the adjudicators is final. The awarding of any prize shall be at their discretion.

Further Regulations for The 2022 Margaret Chalmers Memorial Scholarship

12. The Margaret Chalmers Memorial Scholarship is to enable study in Australia or abroad, by a student of any instrument or voice.
13. The Scholarship is established by means of a bequest to the Music Teachers’ Association of NSW Ltd.
14. The Scholarship is open only to students of FINANCIAL MEMBERS of the MTA of NSW Ltd.
15. TWO Scholarships will be awarded in 2022, each being the sum of $3000. One prize will be awarded to an instrumentalist, the other to a vocalist.
16. TWO contrasting works should be presented. Entire performance is 10 minutes.
17. To be eligible for this Scholarship, applicants must be a resident of NSW and 25 years of age or under as at 23 July 2022.

Scholarship entries from Rural and Regional NSW

24. Scholarship participants from NSW Regional and Rural areas may submit a video performance that will be shown on a large screen at the live concert. Please send in an unlisted YouTube video link (or Dropbox file) before the entry closing date. Any questions please contact MTA Head Office. Video performers will be adjudicated as if attending the live performance
