Scholarships

The MTA offers various scholarships on a regular basis to encourage performance experience and further study opportunities for aspiring young musicians and vocalists.

These scholarships are offered in a variety of instrumental and vocal fields. Some scholarships are offered every year, and some are offered in alternate years.

The Margaret Chalmers Memorial Scholarship

The Scholarship is established by means of a bequest to the Music Teachers’ Association of New South Wales Ltd by the late Margaret Chalmers, to enable study in Australia or abroad, by a student of any instrument or voice. Two contrasting pieces must be played. Performers must be aged 25 years or under, be residents of NSW, and be students of teachers who are MTA members. Two scholarships will be awarded in 2023, each to a value of $1000. Any performers who meet these conditions may be considered for this scholarship.

Previous winners of the Margaret Chalmers Scholarship are ineligible to enter.
